MAR a Division of Oasis Systems, LLC has an exciting opportunity for an Able Bodied (AB) Seaman aboard the R/V Acoustic Explorer. The Able Bodied Seaman will support the Boatwain and Chief Mate to insure the vessel is maintained in a seaworthy, clean and safe manner. The AB stands a navigational watch and conducts security rounds of the vessel at sea and in port. The AB may also be tasked as small boat operator, crane or equipment operator and is an essential member of the deck department. Acoustic Explorer is a NAVAIR vessel operating in Southern California in and around San Clemente Island and primarily used for the testing and evaluation of of sonobuoys. Acoustic Explorer is a 130’ house forward, ex-supply boat acquired by the Navy in 1987. The vessel is powered by two 16V92 Detroit Diesels main engines and has two 67175kw generator sets. There are two hydraulic systems onboard, deployment winches, and a 6000 lb capacity deck crane. The vessel is based in Point Loma next to the Subase and the crew works a 44 hr. / 36 hr. work week while the vessel is in port. The schedule is 9 hour work days, with every other Friday off when in port and 15 hours when at sea for sonobuoy ops.  All positions onboard are hourly and crew is paid for hours worked at straight time with no OT.
